Sparks FD to hold pinning ceremony

SPARKS — The Sparks Fire Department will hold a badge-pinning ceremony at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Sparks Fire Department’s Headquarters Station at 1605 Victorian Ave.

The following fire personnel will be promoted:

• Scott Bryant – from firefighter to fire apparatus operator. Bryant has been with the department since April 1996. He is EMS-ILS certified, was a member of the department Hazardous Material Team and is a member of the department Water Entry Team. In 1998, he was awarded the department’s highest award, the Medal of Valor.

• Darin Berry – from firefighter to fire apparatus operator. Berry has been with the department since August 2006. He is EMS-ILS certified and a member of the department Water Entry Team. In 2010, he was selected as the Firefighter of the Year.

• Chris Jones – from firefighter to fire apparatus o perator. Jones has been with the department since February 2005. He is EMS-ILS certified and a member of the department Technical Rescue Team.

• Ed McDonald – from fire apparatus operator to captain. McDonald has been with the department since August 2003. He was promoted to fire apparatus operator in August 2009. He holds an associate of applied science in fire science. He is EMS-ILS certified and a member of the department Technical Rescue Team.

• Kevin Matteoni – from fire apparatus operator to captain. Matteoni has been with the department since February 1999. He was promoted to fire apparatus operator in September 2008. He is certified as a registered nurse, and is the department Infectious Control Coordinator. In 2009, he was named Uniformed Employee of the Year.

• Tyler Carson – from fire apparatus operator to captain. Carson has been with the department since October 2000. He was promoted to fire apparatus operator in September 2008. He is EMS-ILS certified and a member of the department Water Rescue Team. In April, Carson was awarded the department’s second highest award, the Medal of Merit.

• Chris McCubbins – from inspector II to assistant fire marshal. McCubbins has been with the department since December 2001. He is a fire service instructor and a National Fire Protection Association committee member for Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector and Plans Examiner. He is EMS-EMT certified, P.O.S.T. certified and a member of the department Honor Guard.

• Chris Maples – from captain to battalion chief. Maples has been with the department since November 1995. He was promoted to fire apparatus operator in 2001 and to captain in January 2006. He holds a bachelor of science degree in fire science and is an EMT-I. Maples was a member of the department Hazardous Materials Response Team and Water Rescue Team.
