At about 11:50 a.m., Nevada Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to the crash on Sun Valley Boulevard at First Avenue. The bus was stopped on the right portion of the northbound travel lane just north of the intersection at a passenger drop-off and pick-up point. The bus was occupied by the driver and three passengers.
A silver 2008 Honda Civic driven by a 64-year-old Reno woman was traveling eastbound on First Street and was turning left onto Sun Valley Blvd. The driver never saw the stopped bus and struck the back of it with the front of her sedan. No one on the bus was injured and the driver sustained minor injuries. She was transported to a hospital shortly after the collision. There were no other passengers riding in the Honda.
The NHP reports that troopers detected alcohol on the Civic’s driver at the crash scene. A trooper was at the hospital Monday afternoon speaking to the driver and medical personnel. Her injuries did not appear to be very serious and she was expected to be discharged Monday.
Witnesses to the crash are asked to contact Trooper Mike Edgell via the Department of Public Safety Communications Center at 687-0400 regarding case number NHP-120430220.
