Free fire evacuation workshop today

RENO — As part of Wildfire Awareness Week, a variety of organizations will participate in a free All-Risk Emergency Preparedness Evacuation Workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Galena High School.

Attendees will hear a presentation on evacuation preparation and have a chance to visit with local services representatives to discuss specific questions one-on-one.

Topics include:

• How evacuation orders are determined

• Emergency notification methods

• Animal evacuation

• Special needs of the elderly

• Citizen responsibility

• Preparing a to-go bag and disaster supply kit

Local services represented will include the American Red Cross, fire departments from Reno, Lake Tahoe and Washoe County, the Washoe County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Washoe County Regional Animal Services, the Washoe County School District, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Living With Fire Program.
