RENO — The first of several bus stop murals is being painted today in an effort by the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) to brighten up their loading and unloading locations.
The RTC has collaborated with Reno Artworks, Be the Change Project and Fort Fund for the painting of the mural to be done at the Wedekind Road and Whitfield Way bus stop, beginning at noon.
The organizations who have joined forces with the RTC are non-profit groups aiming to introduce and teach mural art to at-risk youth who have been arrested for vandalization and graffiti.
“Participation in the project improves the self-esteem of these young people and creatively solves a persistent problem, which helps to generate positive effects and neighborhood pride in graffiti-plagued neighborhoods,” a RTC press release said.
Community volunteers are able to participate in the painting between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. and help bring local artist Pan Pantoja’s design to life.
