At 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts, Nevada Opera is presenting “Madame Butterfly” as never seen: in anime-style. Inspired by a drawing from a Thai artist commissioned last year, Nevada Opera is creating new sets, costumes and wigs to add vibrant color and angle to this production that will excite younger audiences while pleasing venerable opera fans by maintaining the beauty and sophistication of more traditional productions.
At 1 and 4 p.m. Saturday, a family musical show called “G Train The Musical” will be presented in the exhibit hall at the Pioneer Center. A crowd-pleaser in New York City where its off-off Broadway run was sold out, this musical is ideal for the whole family. Composer Christian McLeer’s “G Train” takes an insider’s look at five zany strangers forced to spend a whole lot of time together when their train suddenly stops. This family-friendly musical has a great message for kids and adults, and combines a modern pop sound with classical sensibilities, good old-fashioned musical comedy, operatic vocals and rap to bring you a rich tapestry of the people, sounds and differences you might come across in the New York City Subway system.
