RENO, Nev. (AP) — The University of Nevada, Reno's marching band will live to march another day.

Officials say a community fundraising effort led by Reno Mayor Bob Cashell has raised about $117,000 — enough to keep the drums beating and tubas playing.

The band, called "The Pride of the Sierra," had been targeted for elimination because of budget constraints.

Cashell says he hopes to raise another $100,000 to start an endowment and protect the band's future.
