The Nevada State System of Higher Education Board of Regents has selected UNR Interim President Marc Johnson to permanently fill the role of University President. Johnson has filled that Interim roll since April of last year following the untimely death of then University President Milton Glick.
LAS VEGAS — The University of Nevada, Reno has a new leader.
The state Board of Regents voted 9-0 Friday to name Marc Johnson the school’s new president.
Johnson has been serving as interim president since last spring following the death of Milton Glick. A search committee on Wednesday recommended he take the job permanently.
Johnson has been at UNR since 2008, when he was hired as provost. Before that he served as agricultural sciences dean at both Colorado State and Kansas State universities.
Search committee members said Johnson genuinely cares for UNR, and praised his tenacity while leading the school through difficult budget cuts.
He received degrees from North Carolina State University and Michigan State University, where he also taught economics.
