WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Ryan Wheeler hit a solo home run in the second inning Monday night, but that was all the offense the Aces would draw, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Sacramento River Cats in the series finale at Raley Field.

Wheeler’s homer in the second gave the Aces an early lead, but Reno couldn’t hang on despite a quality start by Chris Jakubauskas, who was pinned with the hard-luck loss. The River Cats tied the score in the third, then took the lead with an unearned run in the sixth. Reno failed to push anything more across, falling for the third-straight game.

Jakubauskas (1-2) allowed two runs — just one earned — on six hits over seven innings of work. Out of the Aces bullpen, Jonathan Albaladejo dealt a scoreless eighth with two strikeouts.

The win went to Sacramento starter Jarrod Parker (1-0), who allowed a run on six hits with seven strikeouts over six frames. Pedro Figueroa dealt two scoreless innings to earn a hold before Jim Miller slammed the door in the ninth for his second save.

At the plate for Reno, David Winfree returned to the Aces lineup with two hits.  Reno went hitless in 11 at-bats with runners in scoring position and stranded nine runners on base.

The Aces now head to Fresno to kick off a four-game set with the Grizzlies. In today’s opener, RHP Joe Martinez (0-0, 5.84 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Fresno will counter with RHP Eric Hacker (2-0, 3.27 ERA). First pitch from Chukchansi Park is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and all the action can be heard live on Fox Sports 630 AM or RenoAces.com.
