SPARKS — The Universal Public Procurement Certification Council (UPPCC) has named the city of Sparks a 2012 recipient of the UPPCC Agency Certification Award in the Small Agency category.

The city also has received the UPPCC’s Sterling Agency Award in recognition of achieving the UPPCC Agency Certification Award status and maintaining that status for three consecutive years. The award was created to formally recognize an agency’s commitment to the value of professional certification in the public sector.

Dan Marran, contracts and risk manager for the city of Sparks, is responsible for the city’s public procurement process.

The UPPCC is an independent certification body formed to govern and administer the CPPO and Certified Professional Public Buyer certification programs. Jointly established by the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing and the National Association of State Procurement Officials in 1978, the UPPCC has certified more than 10,000 professionals around the globe.
