SPARKS — A man was arrested Saturday evening for allegedly threatening his girlfriend and two children with a large butcher knife.

Danny Edward Johnson, 57, has been charged with domestic battery, coercion with threats of violence, child endangerment and destruction of property. At about 6 p.m., Sparks police officers responded to the 1500 block of Gault Way where Johnson had gotten into an argument with his girlfriend. During the argument, Johnson allegedly grabbed his girlfriend by the shoulders and broke the house phone, preventing her from calling police. Johnson then grabbed a large butcher knife and displayed it in a threatening manner, and threatened to harm his girlfriend’s children if they called police.

Johnson eventually fell down some steps at the residence and dropped the knife. The girlfriend took the two children and ran to a neighbor’s house, taking the knife in the process. Johnson grabbed a different knife and slashed the tires on his girlfriend’s vehicle and another vehicle. The police were called when the victim reached a neighbor’s house.
