RENO — The Aces took a two-run lead into the eighth inning Saturday night, but a five-run Colorado Springs frame pushed the Sky Sox to a 5-2 victory over Reno at Aces Ballpark.

Aces starter Joe Martinez cruised through seven scoreless frames before running into trouble in the eighth. The right-hander allowed back-to-back singles to lead off the inning before Reno turned to Sam Demel out of the bullpen. Demel came on and surrendered a two-run double and a three-run home run that gave the Sky Sox their first lead of the night, 5-2, which would stand up.

Demel (0-1) took the loss on Saturday, while Edgmer Escalona (1-0) earned the victory for Colorado Springs. Escalona worked a scoreless seventh before Zach Putnam closed out the game with a spotless eighth and ninth to earn the save.

At the plate for Reno, a two-run double in the fifth by Cody Ransom accounted for all of the Aces’ offense on the night. A.J. Pollock continued his torrid start to the season, finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored. He has now hit safely in nine of his first 13-career Triple-A at-bats.

The series comes to a close on Sunday with the first matinee of the season at Aces Ballpark. LHP Zach Kroenke (0-0, No ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while the Sky Sox will counter with RHP Rob Scahill (0-0, No ERA). First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.

The day will be highlighted by the first Renown Children’s Hospital Family Funday of the season, featuring Baseball Bingo. An Easter Egg Hunt on the Aces Ballpark playing field is set to begin at 12:10 p.m. for all kids 12 and younger.
