RENO — Junior League of Reno presents the first annual “Kentucky Derby Day - Juleps, Jockeys and Jazz,” from noon to 4 p.m. May 5 at Hidden Valley Country Club. With limited tickets available, the major fundraising event is expected to sell out, creating a much-anticipated launch to the organization’s new fundraising initiative.

Open to the general public, the derby event will feature a live running of the Kentucky Derby horse race and a Southern-style lunch buffet complete with bourbon balls and pecan pie. Additionally, attendees will enjoy a cigar and jazz tent, Junior League-style horse betting, northern Nevada’s first derby fashion show and a chance to win the Junior League’s Derby Hat Contest.

A silent auction will also highlight the region’s finest with gifts including golf play and stay at Old Greenwood in Truckee; a Peppermill Resort package with stay, spa and dining; wine tasting for 20 at Total Wine in Reno; a private tour and wine tasting with winemaker Brad Warner at Sawyer Cellars in Napa; and various spa, restaurant and merchant packages.

Major sponsorships include Barrick Gold of North America and NV Energy. Events sponsorships are still available.

Tickets cost $65 for the general public and $500 for a table. To purchase tickets, visit www.jlreno.com.
