RENO — Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) will be waiting tables and serving patrons when they volunteer at the ninth annual Claim Jumper Tip-A-Cop fundraiser Thursday.  Each volunteer from the Department of Public Safety will be paired up with a restaurant employee for the event, which takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Claim Jumper restaurant at 4905 S. Virginia St. in Reno.  As patrons are seated, each table will be greeted by the two-person team and a special envelope will be left for those wishing to make a donation.  This special tip is in addition to the normal server’s normal gratuity and all of the money raised will stay here in northern Nevada allowing athletes in the Special Olympics Nevada programs to train and participate in sporting events year-round.

Last year’s event raisedn $2,465. To help with this year’s event, NHP has invited deputies from the Storey County Sheriff’s Office.

“Special Olympics Nevada was designated as the charity of choice by the Nevada Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ Association in 2009 and we do our part in helping to raise money and awareness for the athletes throughout the year,” said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen. “Whether it’s waiting tables at various restaurants, to jumping into the icy waters of Lake Tahoe for the annual Polar Plunge in March, to serving hamburgers at the annual Cops & Burgers event in June, it’s all about supporting a wonderful cause and giving back to the communities we serve.”
