In an effort to help residents with household clean-ups and curb illegal dumping, Waste Management will be offering reduced residential rates for municipal solid waste (MSW) at both transfer stations in Reno. In addition, identified materials commonly associated with illegal dumping will be accepted at no charge. These specific items include eligible household appliances and eligible bulky waste. Any material that falls outside of these parameters will be accepted at more than 50 percent off the regular gate rate.
Acceptable household appliances and bulky waste include refrigerators, chairs, hot water heaters, mattresses, stoves, dishwashers, box springs and washers and dryers. Additional charges apply for sofas and freon recovery.
WM transfer stations are located at 1390 E. Commercial Row and 13890 Mt. Anderson Road. They are open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (Mt. Anderson station closes at 4 p.m. Sunday).
In addition to the quarterly Residential Dump Days, Waste Management is offering its annual free dump weekends April 12-13 and 26-27 at the Lockwood Landfill in recognition of Earth Day. These weekends have been chosen for the “Lockwood Free Dump Event” to give residents several options in an effort to reduce wait times.
Lockwood Landfill is located at 2401 Canyon Way and is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday (closed Sunday).
Both events are for residents only. Commercial customers will be charged as normal. Hazardous wastes and electronics will not be accepted at any time. Tires are limited to four per residential household. Lockwood Landfill is closed on Saturday outside of these selected dates.
