RENO — Planned Parenthood Mar Monte marks Aprils’ Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Awareness month by offering free testing every Wednesday in April from 2 to 4 p.m. Patients can contact Planned Parenthood Mar Monte’s health centers in both Reno and Carson City for the free testing of chlamydia and gonorrhea, two common STDS without symptoms. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention highly recommends all sexually active people age 26 and younger get tested with every new partner or at least annually. Planned Parenthood also recommends older women be tested because they are susceptible to women Trichomoniasis.

“STDs often don’t have symptoms, or if they do women mistake them for yeast infections,” said Alison Gaulden, vice president of public affairs for Planned Parenthood Mar Monte.

Planned Parenthood is offering these two tests free every Wednesday because most women and men don’t have symptoms for either of these STDs or if symptoms do present they show up within a week to a month after having sex.

Appointments can be made by contacting the Reno health center at 688-5555 located at 455 W. Fifth St. in Reno, or the Carson City health center at 461-7260 located at 1201 N. Stewart St., Suite 120.

It offers a range of reproductive and general health services including birth control, pregnancy testing and options counseling, STD testing and treatment, HIV testing, breast and cervical cancer screening, abortion, prenatal care, pediatrics and adult primary health care
