RENO — The Kiwanis Bike Program, sponsored by the Downtown Sparks Kiwanis Club, will celebrate the opening of a new facility Saturday to continue its 30 years of giving reconditioned bicycles to northern Nevada children and families in need.

The new location features 7,000 additional square feet of much-needed space, greatly expanded parking area and additional service hours enabling Kiwanis to donate more refurbished bikes to youths. Last year, 1,100 bikes and helmets were donated and more than 650 “kid hours” of hands-on instruction were held teaching how to fix bikes. Also, more than 2,500 children attended safe riding programs.

The opening will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at the facility, located at 2500 Valley Road, Suite A in Reno. Alice 96.5 FM will be broadcasting live as the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Sparks will hold bike repair clinics, chain checks, flat tire and brake repair and more. There will be craft projects for the family and hourly gift certificate giveaways. The grand prize will be a beautifully reconditioned bike and there will be loads of reconditioned bikes for sale. Celebrate spring with a bike ride and learn about volunteering.
