SPARKS — Three members of the City Council will keep their seats for another term, as Friday’s deadline came and went with no one filing paperwork to challenge them in November’s election.

City spokesman Adam Mayberry said Sunday this might be a historical first for the city, which has three Wards up for a vote this election cycle. Ward 1 represented by Julia Ratti, Ward 3 represented by Ron Smith and Ward 5 represented by Ron Schmitt were due to appear on the ballot, Mayberry said, but all three automatically will be re-elected.

“I really believe this says a lot about the leadership and management of our city,” Mayberry said in an email.

In addition, City Attorney Chet Adams and Sparks Municipal Court Judge Jim Spoo are running unopposed and are re-elected, Mayberry said.

The primary is set for June 12 and the general election will be on Nov. 6.
