RENO — One performance remains of Truckee Meadows Community College theater students’ rendition of “Next to Normal,” the acclaimed, groundbreaking musical that boasts a thrilling contemporary score and is said to be an emotional powerhouse of a musical about a family trying to take care of themselves and each other.

“Next to Normal” was nominated for 11 Tony Awards in 2009 and won three: Best Original Score, Best Orchestration and Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for Alice Ripley. It won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, becoming just the eighth musical in history to receive the honor. The Pulitzer Board called the show “a powerful rock musical that grapples with mental illness in a suburban family and expands the scope of subject matter for musicals.”

The final show will be Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $17 for general admission, $15 for students and $10 for TMCC students and seniors. To buy tickets, call 789-5671 or visit
