Nevadans reminded to be better consumers

LAS VEGAS — Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto and the Bureau of Consumer Protection are joining with federal, state, and local government agencies and national organizations to celebrate the 14th annual National Consumer Protection Week, March 4-10, 2012.

Groups nationwide share tips and information that help consumers protect their privacy, manage money and debt, and avoid identity theft, fraud, and scams. Starting on Mondayand running through Friday, the AG’s office will issue daily consumer alerts to Nevadans.

“The message of National Consumer Protection Week is simple: It’s never too late to become an engaged and more informed consumer,” said Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto. “My office is pleased to participate in this important event to better inform Nevadans so they can avoid falling victim to scams.”

Nevada consumers who believe they are a victim of fraud are encouraged to contact law enforcement, including the local police department, Federal Trade Commission, Better Business Bureau, and the AG’s Office.
