RENO (AP) — A lecture series on Basque culture kicks off Saturday at the Nevada Historical Society in Reno.
The discussion to begin at 2 p.m. will focus on Basque migration to the American West.
A lecture on Basque art and politics is scheduled March 10, followed by a talk on the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum on April 7.
The lecture series corresponds with a new art exhibit featuring wax-on-muslin rubbings of carvings left by Basque shepherds on aspen trees. The carvings, known as arborglyphs, illustrate the lives Basque sheepherders left in France and the Pyrenees in Spain.
That exhibit, called Basque Aspen Art Rubbings, is on display at the Nevada Historical Society through April 7.
