SPARKS — A 45-year-old man from Sparks was arrested Monday for armed robbery and DUI.

Timothy Bowman was taken into custody after he was in a traffic accident at 16th and H streets. At the time of the crash, police were looking for Bowman in connection with an armed robbery that occurred just after 7 p.m. at the Rainbow Market at 1225 Commerce St. The clerk there had given police a description of a man who had entered the store and demanded alcohol. The clerk refused to sell the alcohol because the man’s driver’s license was expired. The man then produced a revolver from his pants pocket and again demanded that he be allowed to purchase alcohol. The clerk relented and the suspect left the store with the alcohol.

From the clerk’s description and a license plate number, police identified the suspect as Bowman.

As police were taking reports about the robbery, Sparks dispatch began to receive calls about an accident at the intersection of 16th and H streets. The general description of the vehicles involved matched Bowman’s vehicle. Before that information could be broadcast from Sparks police dispatch, an officer spotted Bowman’s truck just a few blocks south of where the robbery occurred.

Officers placed Bowman at gunpoint, but he refused to follow direction, according to the Sparks PD report. Officers forcibly removed Bowman from the vehicle and took him into custody. Bowman was charged with robbery with a firearm, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, DUI, obstructing an officer and other traffic-related charges. His bail was set at $16,215.
