Editor’s Note: The Daily Sparks Tribune and PetFolio recently partnered for editorial content on the weekly Pet’s Place page. While the Tribune shares values and goals with PetFolio regarding love of animal companions and a desire to deliver information about their care, this announcement is solely about PetFolio, and in no way is indicative of any change with print delivery of the Tribune. – Nathan Orme, editor
RENO — As I announce to my fellow pet enthusiasts that PetFolio magazine will be exiting the realm of print, I want to say that I and everyone at Animal Fanfare Publishing is tremendously proud of what PetFolio and our team have accomplished over the last 15 years. We have consistently delivered award-winning articles to an enthusiastic audience of readers and advertisers, but given the current advertising environment and the opportunities we see in emerging digital platforms we think the time is right to transition the PetFolio brand.
After 15 years of creating PetFolio magazine, I have decided to make the December/January issue the last paper-and-ink pet magazine. The decision was a long time in coming, but I want to be even more timely and community-oriented. I love the writing and the topics, as well as working with our dedicated contributors. And, PetFolio gave me a wonderful opportunity to be a force in the pet world.
In fact, as I was celebrating our 15th anniversary and putting together our recent anniversary issue, I had the chance to think back to the long list of accomplishments we have achieved over the years. We launched PetFolio with a helping hand from the original horse whisperer, Monty Roberts, on our cover and with a personal interview about communication with horses. We also avidly remember working closely with the Nevada Humane Society as our community came together. Reno Animal Services and the Humane Society joined hands and raised funds and awareness to build the state-of-the-art shelter they now enjoy. We also were happy to introduce, years later, the SPCA of Northern Nevada’s move to their green home for animals on the north side of Reno.
Although our format will change, PetFolio will have a continued and expanded presence for the pets in our community. Specifically, this change will allow us to reach our readers instantly. We want PetFolio to have the most cost-effective way of reaching our community, and the switch to Internet news and events allows us to do that.
