RENO — The Peppermill Resort Spa Casino will host a Texas Hold’em Charity Poker Tournament at 7 p.m. Jan. 13 to benefit the Nevada Humane Society’s G.I. Dogs, a new program that will provide service dogs and companion pets to military veterans.

The tournament will require participants to pay a $50 fee. There will be a prize pool and $20 re-buys and add-ons.

All proceeds will directly benefit the G.I Dogs program. Re-buy participants will also receive a free G.I. Dogs commemorative card cap medallion.

G.I. Dogs is a program that will provide service dogs and companion pets for Nevada’s military veterans at no cost. The most suitable animals from the humane society will be selected for this program from the thousands of abandoned animas each year.

“We are honored that the Peppermill chose the G.I. Dogs program to be the beneficiary of this tournament,” said Diane Blakenburg, community programs director. “It’s a wonderful way to kick off this new program and bring awerness to a cause that is so important to our community.”

The tournament is part of a week-long series of tournaments hosted by the Peppermill and will include experienced and novice players. Fook and drinks will be provided by Peppermill to all tournament participants.

The Peppermill Resort Spa Casino is located at 2707 South Virginia St., Reno. For more information, call the Peppermill Poker Room at 689-7275.
