On Dec. 26, Reno police began investigating a robbery at the Subway restaurant located at 1131 Steamboat Pkwy. The investigation was expanded in the following days to include robberies subsequently committed at Runway Gas and Liquor and at Town Liquor.
On the morning of Dec. 31, a suspect believed to be involved in the aforementioned robberies held up the Galena Market at 19990 Thomas Creek Road. Police believed there might be two suspects working together.
On Dec. 2, Dad’s Quick-Mart in Sparks was robbed by a suspect with circumstances similar to the previous four robberies in Reno and Washoe County.
The last robbery occurred in Carson City at the AM-PM on Dec. 3. Once again, the suspect description and actions were similar to the five robberies under investigation.
On Jan. 3, information was developed identifying two potential suspects. A collaborative operation involving surveillance teams and detectives from the Reno and Sparks police departments and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the arrests of the two suspects. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has also joined in the investigation and will be looking into filing charges in their jurisdiction.
Ancheta has been charged with five counts of robbery, five counts of conspiracy to commit robbery and one count of an ex-felon in possession of a firearm.
Muhlenberg also has been charged with five counts of robbery and five counts of conspiracy to commit robbery.
