Reno Tahoe Comedy presents two comedians

RENO — Join Dan Kimm for his last hypnotist performance of 2011 at the Pioneer Underground on Friday night.

From mild to wild, a little bit wacky to totally amazing but always hilarious, discover how “on the count of three he’ll make you a star!” HYPNOT!C is a mesmerizing, laugh-a-minute show that not only busts the myths surrounding hypnosis but also showcases the hidden talents of the volunteers’ subconscious minds. Kimm, the featured hypnotist who has appeared in showrooms, classrooms and boardrooms throughout the area, transforms audience members into entertaining stars of the show.

Friday’s show begins at 9:30 p.m. Tickets for this event are $16 in advance and $21 the day of the show.

On Saturday, Mike E. Winfield from NBC’s “The Office,” performs shows at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Carla Rea is the night’s featured comedian. Rea is a Reno native with more than 20 years of comedy club, TV and radio experience. DJ Dan Kimm will provide dance music starting at 6 p.m. and throughout the night. Drink specials include a complimentary East-Coast toast at 9 p.m. and the traditional West-Coast champagne toast at midnight.

Big and Rich, Rebelution at Grand Sierra

RENO — Country duo Big and Rich perform with Cowboy Troy at 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve in the Summit Pavilion at the Grand Sierra Resort.

This dynamic duo has become one of the most successful country bands of our time. Their mixing of traditional country sounds with hip-hop, rock and occasional Native American yell has pushed the boundaries of the country genre and have lead them to top the Billboard Country charts, firing out hits such as “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy,” “Lost In This Moment” and many more.

Also at GSR on New Year’s Eve, California reggae band Rebelution performs in the Grand Theatre at 9 p.m.

Huey Lewis and the News at Silver Legacy on Friday

RENO — Huey Lewis and The News, the group that had a run of 19 Top 10 hit singles in the 1980s and early 1990s, is bringing its blues-rock style to the Grande Exposition Hall for one night only on Friday.

Huey Lewis and The News’ first hit, 1982’s “Do You Believe in Love,” turned gold and remained on the Billboard 200 album charts for 35 weeks. The group’s third album, “Sports,” spawned frequent touring and a series of videos that received heavy airplay. The album eventually spawned four Top 10 singles, including “I Want a New Drug,” “Heart and Soul,” “The Heart of Rock & Roll” and “If This Is It.” The album sold 10 million copies in the U.S. and went multi-platinum in 1985.

Also in 1985, “The Power of Love” was a No. 1 U.S. hit featured in the film “Back to the Future” and nominated for an Academy Award. Lewis has a cameo appearance in the film as a faculty member who rejects Marty McFly’s band audition of his song by saying “Sorry fellas, I’m afraid you’re just too darn loud.”

Following on the heels of “The Power of Love,” the band released “Fore!” The album reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 contributing the songs “Stuck with You” and “Jacob’s Ladder” as well as mainstream rock hit “Hip to Be Square.”

Local band to put on free NYE show for military

RENO — Providing a way for local troops to enjoy bringing in a New Year while playing with their spouses, family and friends was the idea behind local cover band Epic sponsoring a free private party for 500 guests this year.

This will be a first-class free private party for soldiers and their guests (ages 18 and over) that will include live rock and country-rock dance music hosted in a perfect location featuring multiple levels (all handicap accessible), an elevated stage, dance floor, plenty of tables and chairs, pool tables and two fully stocked cash bars.

Epic (formally the Decoy Band) is a six-member band with more than 100 years of combined entertainment experience. This premier band will rock the house from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at The Great Escape, 1575 S. Virginia St. in Reno. This club has a look, feel and layout that will help make this party a great memory.

Industry New Year’s Eve parties at the Eldorado

Comedian Gabriel Iglesias rings in 2012

RENO — Instead of fretting about all those New Year’s resolutions, why not start 2012 on an up note with Gabriel Iglesias? The comedian who employs a mixture of storytelling, parody, characters and sound effects is bringing his own brand of the hilarious to the Silver Legacy’s Grande Exposition Hall at 8 p.m. Sunday.

Best known for his stand-up featured on shows such as “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “The Late, Late Show” and “Good Morning America,” Iglesias bases much of his material on his personal issues. His ability to laugh at himself has a universal appeal everyone can relate to. Known as “Fluffy,” his clean, animated comedy style has earned him national crossover appeal. On the big screen, he has appeared in independent films “El Matador” and “The Surfer King,” in which he played the role of Aokee, a water park concession manager. Iglesias has guest starred on the ABC sitcom “My Wife and Kids” and the Fox TV animated comedy “Family Guy.”

In November 2009, Comedy Central released the DVD of the show “Gabriel Iglesias: I’m Not Fat‚ I’m Fluffy.”
