Huey Lewis and the News at Silver Legacy on Friday
RENO — Huey Lewis and The News, the group that had a run of 19 Top 10 hit singles in the 1980s and early 1990s, is bringing its blues-rock style to the Grande Exposition Hall for one night only on Friday.
Huey Lewis and The News’ first hit, 1982’s “Do You Believe in Love,” turned gold and remained on the Billboard 200 album charts for 35 weeks. The group’s third album, “Sports,” spawned frequent touring and a series of videos that received heavy airplay. The album eventually spawned four Top 10 singles, including “I Want a New Drug,” “Heart and Soul,” “The Heart of Rock & Roll” and “If This Is It.” The album sold 10 million copies in the U.S. and went multi-platinum in 1985.
Also in 1985, “The Power of Love” was a No. 1 U.S. hit featured in the film “Back to the Future” and nominated for an Academy Award. Lewis has a cameo appearance in the film as a faculty member who rejects Marty McFly’s band audition of his song by saying “Sorry fellas, I’m afraid you’re just too darn loud.”
Following on the heels of “The Power of Love,” the band released “Fore!” The album reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 contributing the songs “Stuck with You” and “Jacob’s Ladder” as well as mainstream rock hit “Hip to Be Square.”
Huey Lewis’ most recent album of all new material titled, “Plan B,” was released in 2001. The band continues to tour regularly and Silver Legacy is thrilled to have them here at 8 p.m. Friday. Tickets are available from $57.50 and $72.50 with premium seating for $85.50. To reserve seats, visit www.silverlegacy.com or ticketmasters.com or call 800-MUST SEE (687-8733) or 325-7401.
