CARSON CITY (AP) — A Senate committee in Washington, D.C., has passed a renewed push for environmental projects at Lake Tahoe.
The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on Thursday approved the Lake Tahoe Restoration Act of 2011. It authorizes $415 million over 10 years to continue projects initiated in the late 1990s to protect the clarity of the famed lake that straddles the Nevada-California line in the Sierra.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada sponsored the bill along with California Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer.
The legislation, while authorizing the federal expenditure, does not include an appropriation.
