RENO — A 23-year-old Sparks man has been arrested in connection with the hit-and-run killing Saturday night of a local television sports director.

JK Metzker, sports director for the KTVN Channel 2 News in Reno, died Sunday after being struck by a vehicle on North Virginia Street near 17th Street after leaving the University of Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack football game the night before.

Witness descriptions of the vehicle in the incident led Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies to find and arrest  Ryan Joseph Rhea of Sparks. Rhea has been charged with one count of felony hit and run causing death. Alcohol appears to be a factor in the incident, according to law enforcement.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges could be filed pending results of blood tests.

Metzker worked for Channel 2 News for nearly 14 years. He leaves behind his wife, Jaimie, and three young sons: Tommy, Tanner and Luke.

“We are grief struck,” KTVN-TV General Manager Lawson Fox said on the KTVN website. “JK’s commitment to his family was an example to every father and husband. His family is a delight. And JK’s humor and storytelling ability were extraordinary. He is deeply missed.”

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact the Reno Police Department’s Traffic Investigations section at 334-2141.
