LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities say a Las Vegas police officer escaped serious injury in a two-vehicle crash on a freeway in the Summerlin area.

Las Vegas police Officer Bill Cassell says the veteran officer was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and released following the crash that happened a little before 8:30 a.m. Monday on the 215 Beltway near Summerlin Parkway.

Cassell says the officer was wearing a seat belt and the air bags on the Crown Victoria patrol cruiser deployed in the crash.

KTNV-TV in Las Vegas reports the patrol car was driving south on the freeway when it collided with another vehicle.

Cassell says no one else was seriously injured and police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
