SPANISH SPRINGS — The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating several vehicle and residential burglary reports from a residential neighborhood near Shaw Middle School and Spanish Springs High School.

At 3:18 a.m. Tuesday, the sheriff’s office received a report of two suspicious men approximately 20 years old who were seen looking into vehicles with flashlights. The reporting party could not identify the men, but said they were wearing black-colored coats. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the reporting party who said the men ran through a large ditch where they dropped a box of tools.

The sheriff’s deputies used K-9 units, a helicopter and help from the Tribal Police Department and the Washoe County School District Police Department to continue their search. The search was unsuccessful and the two suspects are still outstanding. A few stolen items have been recovered and returned to the owners.

The sheriff’s office urges residents in this area to check their vehicles, outdoor sheds, garages and homes for any signs of unlawful entry or missing valuables. Burglary victims can call 832-WCSO (9276) or file their report online at www.washoesheriff.com. Also, anyone with information about these two men is encouraged to call the patrol division at 328-3350 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
