WEST WENDOVER — A man wanted in connection with a Sunday death in Sparks was caught by police thanks for a car’s tracking system.

Michael Giesbrecht, 38, was found early Monday morning driving a vehicle stolen from a person found dead inside unit #144 of the Park Vista Apartments, located at 565 Sparks Blvd.

At about 9 p.m. Sunday, Sparks police officers responded to a 911 call at the apartment. Upon arrival, officers found the lone occupant dead inside. The person’s name has not yet been released.

Further investigation revealed that the decedent’s vehicle was missing. Sparks police put out the word for help finding the vehicle with other law enforcement agencies, leading the West Wendover police to find the car Monday morning.

Giesbrecht also is wanted in Idaho, according to police. He was arrested and booked in the Elko County jail for possession of a stolen motor vehicle and fugitive from justice warrant. Bail was set at $115,000.

An autopsy was scheduled to be conducted Tuesday to determine the cause of death in the case.
