Marini began working for Hot August Nights in November 2010 amid concern in the Truckee Meadows that the special event might leave the area.
In August 2010, Hot August Nights added an event in Long Beach, Calif., immediately preceding the 24th annual event in the Reno-Sparks area. Local leaders were concerned this addition indicated a possible future move away from northern Nevada, though event organizers said repeatedly that was not the intention.
The 2011 event in Long Beach was canceled due to a lack of registrations.
Since the resignation of former Executive Director Bruce Walter following the 2010 event, Marini has taken the lead role in managing day-to-day operations, leading the Hot August Nights organization in a successful 25th anniversary event this year.
Hot August Nights board President Chris Killian said of Marini’s new role, “Tony had a huge learning curve in a very short period of time and has been able to exceed all of our expectations. He has jumped into his role as leader with enthusiasm and has not only helped everyone gain a renewed sense of excitement for the Hot August Nights event, but he has also proven himself by building trust and solid relationships with sponsors, car participants and our most valuable volunteers.”
Marini’s new position is effective immediately. By his own request, the change in title and promotion will not be attached to any type of pay increase, according to a press release.
