“Our hospital patients need your help,” said Steve Thomas, the donor recruitment director for United Blood Services of Reno. “Please give us a call at 324-6454 to make your appointment to donate or you can also schedule your appointment online at www.BloodHero.com.”
In fact, hospital patients in northern Nevada continue to need blood every day and there are no vacations for them. United Blood Services of Reno needs about 150 blood donors each day to meet the increasing need for blood transfusions due to advancements in the medical field coupled with 69,000,000 baby boomers rapidly changing from being blood donors to becoming blood recipients.
“Fall is here and the need for your blood donation is strong,” said Lisa Rogers, who is the Reno and Sparks fixed site donor recruitment supervisor. “You can help to save a life by donating blood today.”
“And, as an extra incentive for donating blood during the month of October, we are offering all blood donors a chance to win one of two $500 gift cards as our way of saying thank you,” Rogers said. “Additionally, all blood donors will receive a free cholesterol test and points in our Hero in Me donor loyalty program.”
United Blood Services of Reno is the sole blood products supplier to 20 hospitals in northern Nevada and they need blood donations every day to meet the increasing demand for their three principal blood products that are red blood cells, platelets and plasma.
“We hope everyone will consider becoming a blood donor if they are not now coming in to donate,” Thomas said. “Blood donations are essential for our community’s hospital patients and other critically ill people in our community who rely on your blood donations to ensure we have the necessary blood products available when required.”
United Blood Services of Reno has three convenient Community Donation Centers located at 1125 Terminal Way in Reno, 4670 Sparks Boulevard in Sparks and 256 E. Winnie Lane in Carson City and mobile operations throughout northern Nevada.
