SPARKS — At 6:27 a.m. Tuesday, Sparks firefighters responded to a report of a possible structure fire in the area of the 1100 block of Rock Boulevard.

This first fire company found heavy smoke in the area, and a single-story residential structure on fire. The home was vacant and the windows and doors had been boarded over. The fire was on the inside in the back of the structure and had vented to the outside.

The fire was brought under control within 11 minutes of the arrival of the fire department.

There was only slight extension of the fire into the attic. There were no injuries reported and no exposures threatened.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Rock Boulevard was closed for about 45 minutes as the closest hydrant was across the street.
