RENO — Secret Witness is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of suspects wanted in connection with recent metal thefts.

Over the past several months, Reno has experienced numerous copper, brass and other metal thefts valued at thousands of dollars. These include metal plaques, letters, vases and pipe. Large amounts of metal have been stolen from various construction companies and stripped from abandoned homes.

Since July 2011 there has been an increase in the theft of catalytic converters from vehicles. Popular targets include Toyota SUV-type vehicles that provide easy access due to its height and converter location. Thieves quickly cut out the converters, leaving the vehicle disabled and costing the owner over a thousand dollars to replace. The converter is then sold to a scrap yard or private party.

Punishment for the majority of these crimes is a felony charge and jail time.

The Reno Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect(s). Anyone having information relating to these crimes or suspect(s) should contact the RPD at 334-2115, Secret Witness at 322-4900 or www.secretwitness.com.
