At about 1:45 a.m., Sparks police officers responded to a call of a man who was bleeding heavily, possibly from his head, lying in the Open Circles West apartment complex parking lot, at 1690 Merchant St.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, a 22-year-old Hispanic male, who was bleeding heavily and receiving first aid from a citizen. Sparks Fire Department and emergency medical personnel arrived and rendered additional treatment.
While treating the victim, medical personnel discovered a possible bullet wound in the victim’s cheek, along his jaw line.
Officers followed a trail of blood from the parking lot to the area of 1850 Merchant, along the Oddie Boulevard frontage road, where it is possible the incident began. Officers were able to locate some witnesses, who said they heard an argument, followed by a possible gunshot and a car quickly leaving the area.
The victim was transported to Renown Medical Center for treatment, and the wound was determined to be a gunshot wound. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, however the victim might not be able to speak to officers or detectives for several weeks.
The suspect is described as a white male of unknown age, and the weapon is believed to be a handgun of unknown caliber.
