RENO — Waste Management provided crowds increased recycling capabilities at Wingfield Park, home to some of Artown’s largest events, with its solar-powered compactors, convenient single-stream recycling and composting program. The compactors collected trash and recyclable materials in two side-by-side units, compacting the trash periodically and storing up to five times more material. The single-stream recycling method provided convenience for people wanting to recycle more than one type of material. It collected paper, plastic and aluminum all in one receptacle, while special brown rolling carts were provided for all food waste generated at Wingfield Park.

In total, Artown patrons diverted more than 73 percent of the waste generated during the month-long event from entering the local landfill.
