On Aug. 6 and 9 it will have been 66 years since we bombed Nagasaki and Hiroshima. It’s time to retire the nuclear bomb. However, in addition to the annual nuclear weapons budget of $50 billion, the U.S. has allocated $185 billion MORE to augment our nuclear stockpile over the next 10 years. The risks of such folly are countless. The storage of the waste produced by the degeneration of the materials used to build these bombs is poisoning America’s soil and water for us and future generations. And look what is happening in Japan with the damage to reactors caused by the recent earthquake. If THAT’S not enough, where are we supposed to get the money to finance this insanity — off the backs of the American worker of course, IF (s)he still has a job! None of these issues even address the fact that America ALREADY HAS the world’s largest nuclear warhead stockpile. Our government is far too paranoid for the well being of it’s people. Let sanity reign.
Most Sincerely,
Jill Ransom RN
