On Sunday, RPD received a call from a resident who said she had possibly located a deceased child earlier in the day. She said at about 12:30 p.m. she was driving along North Hills Boulevard just south of Buck Drive when she spotted an object wrapped in a blanket near the roadway. She stopped and upon looking further she believes it was the body of a small child in the blanket.
At about this time a black vehicle, similar to a police car, came along. The car was described as being similar to a black mid-2000’s Dodge Charger with a 10- or 12-inch horizontal white stripe. It was driven by a bald white male, about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a heavy build and a brown mustache. He was reportedly wearing a blue uniform of some sort, but without a badge. The woman spoke with this individual who told her she could leave.
Later that evening the woman questioned whether this person was a law enforcement officer or not so she called RPD dispatch, which had no record of this call. RPD patrol units went back to the area but were unable to find anything. None of the other local law enforcement agencies report having a missing child. RPD detectives and Washoe County search and rescue searched the nearby fields but did not locate anything substantial.
RPD detectives are asking the public for assistance from anyone who might have seen the above vehicle in the area or might have observed a silver mid-2000’s Honda Accord pulled to the side of the road on Sunday shortly after noon.
Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Reno Police Department Robbery/Homicide unit at 334-2188 or remain anonymous by calling Secret Witness at 322-4900.
