RENO — A man was arrested for allegedly shooting at his former wife after saying he’d kill her and himself if their relationship was over.

Late Tuesday night, according to police, 51-year-old Bret Keller argued with his ex-wife, from whom he was recently divorced. He left her residence at 535 Broadway, but returned at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday to confront her again. Upon entering the apartment, he told her that if their relationship was over, he was going to kill her then himself. Keller then reportedly fired one round at the victim striking her in the face. The victim’s 16-year-old son was present and came to his mother’s aid. Keller then allegedly fired one round at the teenager, grazing his back. Keller and the teen struggled over the gun when another round was fired. A neighbor came to assist and was able to take the gun away, but the struggle continued until the neighbor struck Keller with a baseball bat. Police soon arived and took Keller into custody.

The ex-wife’s injury has been deemed non-life-threatening and she is in the ICU.

The teenage son suffered minor injuries in the struggle and a grazing wound from a bullet.

The neighbor received minor injuries associated with the struggle over the gun.

Keller suffered moderate injuries. He has been charged with two counts of attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon, two counts of domestic battery and one count of burglary. Keller was out on bail from previous domestic related charges.

Anyone with information about this shooting is encouraged to call the Robbery/Homicide Division at 334-2115 or 334-2188 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
