With the Aces holding a slim 3-2 lead in the sixth, Reno mounted a rally that would break the game open. Cole Gillespie drew a leadoff walk, followed by a Sean Burroughs single. Gillespie scored when River Cats right fielder Michael Taylor misplayed Burroughs’ hit, and Even Frey and Collin Cowgill plated two runs with RBI singles.
Allen capped the scoring in the sixth with a towering two-run shot — his 14th homer of the season — extending his hitting streak to eight games and driving in his 55th and 56th runs of the season.
Tom Layne (7-3) bounced back from back-to-back losses with a strong outing, holding Sacramento to just two earned runs in six innings. Layne scattered five hits before handing the ball to the Aces bullpen, which combined to throw three innings of scoreless relief.
Doug Mathis (0-5) took the loss for the Cats, surrendering six earned runs in 5.1 innings while striking out four.
Four Aces hitters finished with two hits Monday, including Burroughs, who now has hit safely in all seven games since returning from a stint with Arizona. Konrad Schmidt hit his fifth homer of the season, and Cowgill extended his hitting streak to nine games with two singles.
