RENO — The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Nevada Highway Patrol, and the Reno and Sparks police departments began placing additional personnel on patrol Friday and will continue through July 11. The emphasis is to contact drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The goal of this campaign is to help make the upcoming Fourth of July holiday as safe as possible for all motorists on Nevada’s roadways.

The additional enforcement personnel will be working through grant funding received from the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety.

This time of year is traditionally dangerous due to the number of people traveling during the summer time and the numerous social gatherings that occur around the Fourth of July holiday.

Authorities advise motorists to use good judgment and select a designated driver or alternate means of transportation.
