RENO — At about 11 a.m. Tuesday, a man was hiking in the area of Mayberry Drive and Plateau Road when he came across a few bones that appeared to be human. He marked the spot with his handheld GPS and directed police officers to his location.

Reno police detectives conducted a preliminary search of the area, locating additional bones and other personal items, all of which appeared to have been there for quite some time. On Wednesday, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Unit conducted a thorough search, locating additional items.

Detectives are actively attempting to identify the deceased. The cause of death is unknown at this time and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Reno Police Department Robbery/Homicide unit at 334-2188 or remain anonymous by calling Secret Witness at 322-4900.
