RENO — The Reno Police Department issued 178 seatbelt and child seat citations during the “Click It Or Ticket” campaign May 23 through June 5. The campaign targets unbelted drivers as well as drivers with unbelted passengers under the age of 18.

In addition to the 178 seat belt and child seat citations, the Reno police contacted more than 350 motorists, issued 114 warnings, 36 citations for speeding, 16 for not having a valid driver’s license, 52 citations for not having the required proof of insurance and 60 citations ranging from vehicle registration violations to vehicle equipment violations and various moving violations.

The interagency Click It Or Ticket efforts are designed to bring attention to the public of the need for consistent use of seat belts to avoid injury or death resulting from traffic accidents, and are conducted as a cooperative effort between the Reno Police Department, the Sparks Police Department, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada Highway Patrol and Washoe County School District Police.
