RENO — Sierra Nevada Community Aquatics would like to thank the community members who attended the Adopt-A-Pool event at the Idlewild Park pool over the last week. The number of people who came out to help with this year’s event met the group’s expectations and exceeded the city’s expectations.

Although not the most glamorous of work, everyone rolled up their sleeves and dove in. The event on Saturday had more than 110 volunteers from most of the user groups and even some of the neighbors of Idlewild pool area. Thanks also goes out to NV Energy for supplying drinks and snacks for the Saturday event.

Even though the Idlewild pool is begging to be filled with water for the opening on Friday, there still are three more Adopt-A-Pool days at the Traner pool this week from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. That pool needs cleaning, painting, repairing expansion joints, assistance with building preparation and pump startup. The Traner plan has the same basic functions as the Idlewild pool.

Volunteers are asked to bring rakes, gardening equipment for planting, covered shoes that can get wet and clothes appropriate for painting.
