ELKO — The Bureau of Land Management, Elko District, Tuscarora Field Office signed the Record of Decision and Plan of Operations Modification Approval for Newmont Mining Corporation’s Genesis Project on Wednesday.

The Record of Decision follows the publication of the Final Environmental Impact Statement which was made available to the public April 15.

The Genesis Project is an amendment to the Plan of Operations for the Genesis-Bluestar Operations, an ongoing gold mining project on the Carlin Trend. The Genesis Project includes expanding the existing Genesis open pit, backfilling the Bluestar and Beast pits then partially backfilling the Genesis pit as mining progresses.

Reclamation will be concurrent to the extent possible, with all disturbed areas in the Genesis Project area reclaimed within two years of completion of mining operations. Following completion of operations, including reclamation, up to seven years of monitoring for success of vegetation reclamation will continue.
