FERNLEY, Nev. -- Officials with the Nevada Division of Emergency Management will hold a meeting Wednesday night in Fernley to advise flood victims of available state aid.

The Homeowners Disaster Assistance Program was created by the state Legislature to help homeowners with costly repairs in the event of a disaster.

It currently has about $4.5 million in available funds, and homeowners can qualify for up to $28,800 in assistance.

The program is open to Fernley residents whose homes were flooded when an irrigation canal ruptured on Jan. 5.

A program spokesman says residents who have received assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency also may qualify for state aid.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Cottonwood Elementary School.
