RENO — Police have made an arrest in a bank robbery that occurred Tuesday.

At 2:15 p.m. the suspect entered the Bank of America located at 700 N. Virginia St., handed the teller a note demanding money and said he had a weapon. After receiving an undisclosed sum he fled from the bank. Witnesses saw the robber entering a vehicle and gave officers a description.

Responding officers from Reno and Sparks police departments and the FBI located the vehicle and suspect in the parking lot of the Aloha Inn in Sparks. Jerry Martell, 53, was taken into custody in possession of evidence from the crime. He was booked on one federal count of bank robbery.

Detectives and federal agents are continuing their investigation and it is anticipated Martell will be charged with the Sparks bank robbery from March 30 as well as the Reno bank robbery from April 1.

Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Reno Police Department at 334-2188 or remain anonymous by calling Secret Witness at 322-4900.
