FERNLEY — A resident died after being hit by a pickup Monday evening.

At 8:56 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to an accident involving a pedestrian who was struck by a pickup truck. The incident occurred on Farm District Road just south of Cottonwood Lane in the Fernley area.

Christopher H. Capps, 23, was driving his Dodge Dakota pickup west on Farm District Road when he unexpectedly saw a pedestrian walking in the same travel lane. Capps was unable to avoid the pedestrian who was later identified as 30-year-old Joshua M. Pascus of Fernley. Although Capps applied the brakes, the left front portion of the pickup struck Pascus.

Pascus was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno by ground ambulance and died later that evening at the hospital. Capps had been wearing a seat belt and was not injured. Troopers are still trying to learn if Pascus was attempting to cross the street or if he was walking in the travel lane. Farm District Road is a two-lane roadway with a posted speed limit of 35 mph. Alcohol and speed are not believed to be contributing factors in this incident.

Witnesses to the accident or anyone wishing to provide additional information is encouraged to contact Trooper Eric Gallagher at 775-689-4661 regarding case number 1104041530.

Although it's been well past a year since my very good friend has passed away, it still bothers me , it continually bothers me,that josh was not care flighted to Renown.. Driven by ground ambulance? Are you serious,? What I want to know is why? Why? Who in fact makes that call whether somebody is driven or care flighted???I can't help but wonder if he would have survived if he was flown in.
