RENO — The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) is hosting its fourth annual Stompin’ with the Pack Stepshow on April 16 at Hug High School. Doors will open at noon and the show will begin at about 1 p.m.

Stompin’ With the Pack is an annual event where sororities and fraternities showcase the art of stepping, which is deeply rooted in African-American culture.

“One of the goals for the step show is to bring diversity and culture to campus,” said Carissa Mangubat, a member of Lambda Phi Xi.

Aside from bringing culture to the campus, MGC wants to showcase the university and spark an interest in higher education among local youth. The show highlights the positivity and diversity that can exist on campus.

This year’s competitors include the Men of Distinction, the illustrious ladies of Lambda Phi Xi Multicultural Sorority Inc., Sisters on a Move, the men of Kappa Alpha Psi Inc., Sigma Omega Nu, Phi Delta Theta and the Gentlemen of Lambda Psi Rho. The first-place winner of the stepping competition will go home with $1,000 and second place will win $500.

Ticket sales have nearly doubled every year of the show’s three performances. The uplifting attitude of the MGC makes the show great for all ages. This year is far bigger than in previous years in terms of venue and competitors
