SPARKS — A young Reno man was shot early Sunday morning after a fight near the Sparks Marina.

At 3:45 a.m. Sunday, Sparks police officers responded to a call of a reported fight at the Legends at Sparks Marina shopping center near a parking lot.

When officers arrived in the area they learned that several subjects had challenged the victim, 20-year-old Reno resident Courtney Gardner, and some of his friends to a fight. The victim initially tried to avoid the fight, but might have later agreed to fight.

As Gardner and one of the instigating group prepared to fight, another subject fired a round from a handgun in Gardner’s direction. It is unclear if Gardner was hit by a bullet or a ricochet, but he did receive a minor injury. He was treated by REMSA paramedics for very minor injuries and released at the scene. No other persons were reported as injured. The suspects fled the scene.

The victims were unable to provide police with a description of the suspects in this case. If anyone has information regarding this incident, they are asked to contact the Sparks Police Detective section at 353-2225 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
